Redemption is the release secured by a price — the completed act of buying back, and the freedom it obtains. Geulah is the right and the result of the kinsman’s recovery (Leviticus 25:24); apolutrosis, in the Greek, is the release-on-payment, the deliverance a ransom buys (Ephesians 1:7). Redemption is not merely rescue; it is lawful recovery: a price paid, a claim satisfied, a captive released, a title restored. “In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins” (Ephesians 1:7) names the price and the result together. To have redemption is to hold the secured release — the transaction completed, the freedom obtained by payment.
