To confess is a legal admission — to say the same thing the record says. To confess sin is to agree with the charge rather than contest it, entering a plea that matches the evidence; to confess the Name is to make a binding public declaration of allegiance. “Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men” (Matthew 10:32) is on-the-record testimony that binds the one who gives it. Confession, in either direction, is testimony entered about oneself: agreement with the indictment, or a sworn declaration of loyalty. It is not merely admitting a feeling; it is going on the record before the court.
