emunah — Hebrew

Faithful means fidelity to the terms of the bond — reliability that holds under testing, the trait a court can count on. A faithful party keeps covenant when keeping it is costly; emunah is steadfastness proven, not merely intended. “Know therefore that Yahuah thy Elohim... keepeth covenant and mercy” (Deuteronomy 7:9) grounds His faithfulness in covenant-keeping. To be faithful is to be contractually dependable — to render what one is bound to render, consistently, so the other party may rely on it. This is why the faithful are commended and the unfaithful charged: fidelity to the bond is the very thing the covenant measures.

Its Role in the Court

A covenant is only as good as the parties’ faithfulness to it, and emunah is that faithfulness — tested, proven, dependable. Yahuah’s faithfulness is His covenant-keeping; the believer’s is the loyalty the bond requires in return. It is measured by conduct under pressure, which is why the walk is where faithfulness is shown. The faithful are those the court can rely on to keep terms.

A faithful party is one you can count on when it is hard — who keeps the agreement when breaking it would be easier. That is emunah. Yahuah is faithful in exactly that way: He keeps covenant. And the walk of this life is where our own faithfulness is tested and shown.
