11Mediator

mesites — Greek

A mediator is the legally recognized go-between who stands between two parties to make a covenant hold — an office, not a friendly gesture. Moses served as mediator of the Sinai covenant, receiving the terms and standing between Yahuah and the people (Galatians 3:19). “There is one mediator between Yahuah and men, the man Messiah Yahushua” (1 Timothy 2:5) names the office precisely: one authorized party bridging the two sides so the covenant can stand. Note the framing — ‘the man’ — the mediator represents men before Yahuah, an appointed intermediary, not a third party equal to the One he mediates toward.
The Root

mesites (G3316) — a mediator, an arbitrator; the middle party who makes a covenant hold.

The Courtroom Word

An office term — the authorized go-between who makes a covenant stand.

Its Role in the Court

A covenant between parties at distance needs a mediator — the recognized middle party who carries the terms and stands between the two. Moses did it at Sinai; the Messiah does it for the renewed covenant. The office is representative: the mediator stands for men before Yahuah, an appointed intermediary. ‘One mediator... the man Messiah Yahushua’ locates Him as the authorized bridge, not a co-equal to the One toward whom He mediates.

Proof Texts

1 Timothy 2:5 “One mediator between Yahuah and men, the man Messiah Yahushua.” The office named — the mediator a man, for men.

Galatians 3:19 “Ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.” Moses as covenant mediator.

Hebrews 9:15 “He is the mediator of the new testament.” The office for the renewed covenant.

Hebrews 12:24 “To Yahushua the mediator of the new covenant.” The go-between who makes it hold.

In Plain Terms

A mediator is the authorized go-between who stands between two parties to make a covenant hold — an office, not a favor. Moses did it at Sinai; the Messiah does it now. And note ‘the man Messiah Yahushua’: the mediator represents men before Yahuah, an appointed bridge, not a co-equal.

Bring It Home

When two parties cannot come together directly, a recognized middle man carries the terms and makes the agreement stand. That is a mediator. Moses stood between Yahuah and Israel; Yahushua stands between Yahuah and men — ‘the man,’ the appointed go-between, representing us before the bench.

Courtroom Roles
  • Yahushua (the Mediator) the appointed man who stands between Yahuah and men to make the covenant hold.
  • Yahuah (the one party) toward whom the mediator represents men.
  • The people (the other party) whom the mediator represents.
