21Sabbath
shabbat — Hebrew
shabbat (H7676) — the Sabbath, the seventh day; from shabat, to cease, to rest.
A covenant-sign term — the observed seventh-day mark of the bond.
A covenant has its sign, and the Sabbath is Israel’s — the seventh-day cessation set apart at creation and written into the covenant as ‘a sign... a perpetual covenant.’ It is kept, not merely admired: the mark one bears to show whose people one is. Profaning it was a grave breach; keeping it is bearing the sign. The Sabbath is the observed covenant mark, the seventh day ceased and set apart.
Exodus 31:13 “It is a sign between me and you throughout your generations.” The covenant sign.
Exodus 31:16 “The sabbath... for a perpetual covenant.” The sign written into the terms.
Exodus 20:8 “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.” The command to observe.
Genesis 2:3 “Elohim blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it.” The day set apart at creation.
The Sabbath is the covenant sign, kept — the seventh-day rest set apart at creation and written into the covenant as ‘a sign between me and you.’ It is observed, not just admired: the mark you bear to show whose people you are. To keep it is to bear the sign of the bond.
The Sabbath is Israel’s covenant sign — like a seal you carry, marking whose you are. ‘A sign between me and you... a perpetual covenant.’ It was set apart at creation and written into the terms, to be kept. To keep the Sabbath is to bear the mark of the bond with Yahuah.
- Yahuah (the covenant-Giver) who set the Sabbath as the sign of the bond.
- The people (the sign-bearers) who keep the Sabbath as the mark of the covenant.
- The Sabbath (the sign) the seventh day set apart and observed.
