The Sabbath is the covenant sign, kept — a perpetual mark of the bond between Yahuah and His people, and a command to be observed. “It is a sign between me and you throughout your generations” (Exodus 31:13); “the sabbath... for a perpetual covenant” (Exodus 31:16). Shabbat is to cease, to rest — the seventh-day cessation set apart at creation and written into the covenant terms. It is not a suggestion but a sign one keeps, marking whose people one is. To keep the Sabbath is to bear the covenant sign; to profane it was a grave breach. The Sabbath is the observed mark of the covenant, the seventh day set apart and kept.
